Scar Tissue Massage
Scar tissue massage is a gentle, responsive treatment designed to support comfort, movement, tissue mobility, and connection with areas of the body affected by surgery, injury, burns, medical treatment, or tissue trauma.
Scars can sometimes feel tight, sensitive, numb, itchy, raised, restricted, swollen, or disconnected from the surrounding tissue. Treatment is adapted carefully to the age and stage of healing, your comfort level, nervous system response, and what your body may need support with on the day.
Sessions may include gentle scar massage, myofascial techniques, lymphatic support, desensitisation, movement-based approaches, and nervous-system-aware treatment where appropriate.
The aim is not to force tissue to change, but to support mobility, comfort, body awareness, tissue glide, and overall recovery.
What This Treatment May Help With
- Post-surgical scars
- Caesarean scars
- Burn scars or injury-related scarring
- Scars that feel tight, sensitive, numb, itchy, or restricted
- Reduced tissue glide or pulling sensations
- Swelling, heaviness, or fluid congestion around scar tissue

Scar Tissue & Nervous System Support
Scars are not only changes within the skin, but can also affect surrounding fascia, movement patterns, sensation, comfort, and the nervous system. Some people experience ongoing guarding, sensitivity, disconnection, or tension around scarred areas long after physical healing has occurred.
Scar tissue massage does not aim to aggressively force tissue to release. Instead, treatment works gradually and respectfully with the body to support comfort, mobility, desensitisation, tissue awareness, and nervous system regulation.
Sessions are adapted carefully to your comfort level and readiness on the day, particularly when working with sensitive areas, persistent pain, medical trauma, or emotionally significant scars.
What to Expect During Your Session
Treatment is always guided by consent, communication, and your comfort level throughout the session. Sessions are paced gently and adapted to the age and stage of healing, sensitivity of the area, and your nervous system response on the day.
Pressure is usually light to moderate, and direct scar work is only included when it is appropriate and you feel ready. Some sessions may also include surrounding tissue work, myofascial techniques, movement-based approaches, lymphatic support, or general relaxation-focused treatment where appropriate.
People often notice gradual changes over time in comfort, movement, tissue sensitivity, pulling sensations, body awareness, or confidence reconnecting with an area of the body.
Healing Stage & Safety Considerations
If a scar is new, inflamed, open, infected, fragile, or still under active medical care, treatment may need to be delayed, modified, or require medical approval before proceeding.
Scar tissue massage is always adapted carefully to the stage of healing, tissue sensitivity, medical history, and individual comfort level.
If there is any uncertainty about whether treatment is appropriate, Katrina can discuss this with you before or during your appointment.
Scar Tissue Massage FAQs
This depends on the stage of healing, type of scar, medical advice, and how the tissue is presenting. New, open, inflamed, or medically unstable scars may require more healing time before direct scar work is appropriate.

Yes. Some people seek scar support months or years after surgery or injury, particularly if an area still feels tight, sensitive, restricted, numb, or uncomfortable.
Not always. Surrounding fascia, muscles, movement patterns, posture, swelling, and nervous system responses may also be contributing to discomfort or restriction around a scarred area.
Yes. Depending on your presentation, sessions may incorporate gentle lymphatic support, myofascial approaches, movement-based treatment, relaxation techniques, or surrounding tissue work where appropriate.
You can wear comfortable clothing to your appointment. Treatment is usually performed directly on the skin using appropriate draping, however your comfort is always prioritised and some techniques can also be adapted to work over clothing where appropriate.
Some people experience scars as emotionally significant or feel disconnected from an area of the body following surgery, injury, or medical treatment. Sessions are approached gently and respectfully, with treatment adapted to your comfort, readiness, and overall sense of safety.
